The New Scholars Network Needs Your Help! The New Scholars Network is part of the Refugee Research Network, dedicated to students, practitioners, and policy makers in junior positions working in the field of forced migration and refugee studies.

International Voluntary Sector Organization and Agency Partnerships

The International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM) is an independent, self-governing community of scholars and practitioners who are concerned about understanding forced migration and about improving the formulation of policies and administration of programs dealing with refugees and other displaced persons. The membership forms an open, international, collegial community, receptive to meeting with and learning from others and is not simply an academic organization but includes practitioners and policy makers.

International Research Centres

The Institute for the Study of International Migration (Georgetown University, Washington, DC) affiliated with the Georgetown Law Center, provides analyses of international migration, and networks with other U.S. and foreign universities to foster research exchanges and cooperative projects.

IBM Canada Ltd. is one of Canada's leading providers of advanced information technology, products, services and business consulting services. Headquartered in Markham, Ontario, its extensive collaboration with university researchers through IBM’s Centre for Advanced Studies was recognized in 2006 with a Synergy Award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). IBM Canada is one of the country’s largest R&D investors, contributing $360 million (CDN) in 2006.

Institutional Partners

The Canadian Council for Refugees (Janet Dench, Executive Director) is a non-profit umbrella organization of approximately 170 member organizations across Canada involved in the settlement, sponsorship and protection of refugees and immigrants. It is providing leadership to the emerging International Networking on Refugee Rights, growing out of an international conference that brought together close to 500 participants (most NGOs) from over 30 countries.

Uzo Anucha is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work, York University. Dr. Anucha’s scholarship, teaching and professional activity focuses on promoting equity and access for diverse communities within local, national and international contexts. Dr Anucha conceptualizes her applied research scholarship as a community dialogue that must fully engage the community studied. She actively seeks to bridge the gap between knowledge production and knowledge use by translating and disseminating research.

B.S. Chimni, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, is an internationally renowned legal scholar. His areas of expertise include international law, international trade law and international refugee law. Currently he is Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has been Vice Chancellor of the W.B.

Collaborators - Canadian Universities

Howard Adelman is the founding director of the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University and is currently a Research Professor at the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. He has published or edited 21 books and well over 100 academic articles in refereed journals or as chapters in books. In the area of forced migration, his current work focuses on refugee protection and the rights of return. He also writes on genocide and on the ethics of intervention.
